What Ferrivia is

Most iron supplements stop at adding iron. Ferrivia Prime treats iron as a system: absorption, transport, red blood cell synthesis, oxygen delivery and the mitochondrial machinery that turns that oxygen into energy. It is built on Ferrochel® — Albion’s patented ferrous bisglycinate chelate — and surrounded by the vitamin C, copper, folate and B12 that iron physiology actually depends on.

Named raw materials in this formula

Ferrochel®

Patented ferrous bisglycinate chelate from Balchem Albion Minerals. Iron bound to two glycine molecules.

Copper glycinate

Copper-dependent enzymes are required for transferrin loading and iron transport.

Botanical support

Siberian Ginseng, Dong Quai, Gentian and Nettle Leaf for adaptogenic and digestive support.

What the research reports

Figures published for the raw materials used in this formula, cited from the ingredient supplier and the peer-reviewed literature.

~5x

Ferrochel® absorption versus ferrous sulfate under phytate-rich conditions, per Balchem.

~64%

Fewer gastrointestinal adverse events versus standard iron salts, per Balchem.

GRAS

Recognised in the United States under approved conditions of use.

The formulation rationale

Why each decision was made, in the formulator’s own terms.

Why conventional iron salts fail

Cheap iron salts are highly reactive. They commonly cause constipation, nausea, reflux, bloating and abdominal pain, and large amounts frequently remain unabsorbed in the gut. That combination reduces effectiveness and drives people to abandon iron therapy altogether — which matters, because restoring ferritin properly takes months of consistent use.

What chelation changes

Ferrochel® binds iron to two glycine amino acids in a stable chelate. The glycine shields the iron from phytates, tannins, calcium and fibre — the compounds that normally interfere with absorption — so more of it stays stable and bioavailable through digestion. A 2023 systematic review and meta-analysis in Nutrition Reviews found ferrous bisglycinate produced improved haemoglobin outcomes and fewer gastrointestinal adverse events than conventional iron salts in pregnant women.

Iron alone is not blood building

Copper is required for transferrin loading and iron transport; folate and B12 drive red blood cell maturation; vitamin C converts ferric iron to the more absorbable ferrous form. Supplementing iron while functionally deficient in copper or folate limits the response no matter how much iron is taken. Ferrivia supplies all four.

Energy, not just numbers on a lab report

Iron is a core component of mitochondrial respiration. B1, B2 and B3 were included so that once oxygen delivery improves, the cells receiving it can actually convert it to ATP. Siberian Ginseng and Gentian address the two ends most iron products ignore: functional stamina, and the stomach acid that iron absorption depends on.

Ferrivia, in practice

Why take it after eating?

Ferrochel® is markedly gentler than conventional iron salts, but taking it after food further improves comfort for sensitive individuals.

Can I take it with tea or coffee?

Leave a gap. Tannins bind iron. Chelation shields Ferrochel® from much of this, but separating the dose by an hour or two removes the question entirely.

How long until I notice a difference?

Ferritin restoration is measured in months, not days. Consistency matters more than dose — which is exactly why tolerability was the design priority.

Should I be tested first?

Yes. Iron is one of the few nutrients where supplementing blind is a poor idea. Ask your practitioner for ferritin, not just haemoglobin.
